Anabolism and Catabolism

Anabolism and Catabolism

Although the majority of the people are working out adequately enough to achieve muscle gain, examining in depth the way anabolism and catabolism works will help the athlete who is on the quest to build muscle optimally, not just adequately, for even more muscle growth.

How is Muscle Growth Stimulated?

When tissues receive damage, also referred to as micro tears, the muscles rebuild and as a result muscle growth occurs. The damage that the muscles receive that is the reason for creating micro tears is considered beneficial damage because your body will be calling upon itself to make the muscles stronger and better than ever before. It is almost as if the body is realizing that this activity may occur again sometime in the near future and next time it has to be prepared.

When does Muscle Growth Occur?

When our body is in the anabolic state, this is the time that muscle growth occurs. This is when we realize the difference between anabolism and catabolism becomes so important, yet neglected, for increasing your vertical jump.

When your body has the sufficient energy and substances to repair and rebuild the muscles, this is the time when we are in the anabolic state.

When your body does not have sufficient energy and substances, then it is creating a catabolic state, which means it must break down other structures to obtain the required energy.

It should be fairly obvious that when if you want to grow stronger, you should avoid catabolism.

How Do I Become Anabolic?

Proper nutrition has long been the secret to getting the most gains and it is what separates successful athletes from the less successful ones. Having an ample source of carbohydrates and other nutrients will ensure that anabolism is happening.

Otherwise, after an intense workout in which you do not immediately give your organism the nutritients it needs, you will find your body in a state of catabolism, which usually results in muscle loss and not muscle gain.

So remember, take care of your nutrition after an intense workout. Intense workouts without a sufficient diet may end up harming you instead of benefiting you.
