For years I have had difficulties in gaining and maintaining my vertical leap. Once I figured out the following secret, people thought I was using steroids, which actually I didn’t and never have. Proper nutrition is without doubt the most vital factor in gaining muscle. In fact, you can find yourself suffering from muscle loss instead of gaining muscle if you neglect this part of your training. The reason for this is because of anabolism and catabolism, explained in detail here:
What does your diet needs more than anything else?
It’s PROTEIN. There’s a reason why this is the most important muscle-sustaining and –building element and don’t forget that your muscles are made from it.
Each protein contains amino acids which can be divided in the two following categories:
1. Essential (must be obtained from food)
2. Nonessential (occurring naturally in the body).
In order for a protein to be usable it has to contain complete amino acids, both essential and nonessential. However many foods contain protein, which are not complete proteins and cannot be used as a part of muscle growth.
Once you ensure that you’re getting enough and the right foods which contain protein, take a look at the amount of carbohydrates you’re consuming. When you take a substantial amount of carbs after a workout, your body releases insulin, which will speed up the pace in which nutrients are absorbed into the muscles.
Proteins and carbs are two of the most important nutrients needed to increase your muscle growth. Make sure you’re consuming enough of both so that your vertical leap will maximize its growth.
