How Do I Jump Higher

One question that a large number of trainers and experts face from young players is ‘how do I jump higher’? However, the answer to this question is not as simple as the question itself. Vertical training is an exclusive domain in itself, replete with a specific exercise and diet regimen. It is not very difficult though, and does not require huge amount of time- what is needed is discipline and regularity, and most importantly, the right information. At times, young athletes are seen working very hard on trying to push their jump up over the 40 inch mark, but the results they achieve are far from satisfactory. 4 or 5 inches is all they add to their jump after all the rigorous training; this is the kind of figure that should be achieved within a month’s time, given the right knowledge. The answer to the question ‘how do I jump higher’ is addressed by different people in different ways. To an amateur, it could be a daunting task to decide which one of these methods to increase vertical leap is the best. So which is the best anyway? The answer is all. Save for a few techniques that are no good, (they are usually easy to identify, at least after they have produced no results over a couple of weeks or so) all other techniques are equally good in their own regard. But the best results are achieved by combining these techniques to design a critical training regime. If the answer to ‘how do I jump higher’ has eluded you for too long, there is still no reason to lose heart. Jump training requires no expensive training equipment. Simple plyometrics done right can give you the required muscle tone. Training must also be done no more than about an hour a day, interspersed with periods of recommended rest.

So Jason, Ive been reading a lot of things you’ve said about how you have to train at a high intensity in order to increase your jumping explosion and not your jumping endurance. But how do I know if an exercise is right for that? For example, I’ve been doing squats, squat jumps with weight, calf raises, split leg squat jumps, and also just taking a 10 pound medicine ball and jumping as high as I can with it. Are these exercises going to help my explosion, or my endurance?
