Groin or lower back pain for vertical jumpers and youtubers.
I’m going to keep this one short and sweet.
Youtubers, facebookers, and desk job folks – that’s a lot of us. We sit hours upon end over the computer watching dunk vids and sports and then we go play intensely for an hour.
Let’s take another look…
We sit in a position of hip flexion for hours upon end. Hip flexion is basically when you bend over at the hip, or fold at the hip shoulders towards knees.
Staying in this position hours on end will causes shortening of the hip flexor muscles and muscles about the hips.
Then we get up, and practice jumping… Jumping involves the exact opposite: hip extension.
So these shortened muscles are now being stretched VERY quickly as we execute athletic movements. This is a formula that can cause pain as stress is put on the major hip flexors.
The Iliopsoas” is the main hip flexor that inserts at the groin. This could explain groin or lower back problems that you are having.
Solution?
Get up and perform this stretch every hour or so as you sit in static hip flexion…
Get your abdominals and hip flexors some attention in the gym so you are correctly equalizing your hip extension. Vertical jumpers work hard in the gym on the “posterior chain” which basically makes very capable of powerful hip extension. This needs to be balanced out.
Core abdominal work, bridges, and planks are an excellent starting point.
I hope this helps. Please comment below if you identify or have any questions.
