Improving Your Vertical Form: Three Tips

Tips to Increase Your Vertical

Brought to you by The Jump Manual

Here are three very important tips to improve your FORM when playing basketball.

To get a better understanding of what form really means, here is a simple definition:

Form is the synchronization of movement aimed at upward propulsion.

Form is almost always neglected when someone tries to increase his vertical leap. It’s neglected because most of us just don’t associate looking good to actually helping ourselves achieve our goals of throwing it down with authority. But the benefits are twofold: you’ll add several inches to your vertical and you’ll look more impressive to the crowd looking on.

Getting your form to imitate the pro’s form is certainly going to take some exercises that improve your flexibility and also your mental power. Expert Jacob Hiller recommends the following tips:

1. Emphasize and concentrate on the last step before you jump in order to lower the body enough to create enough propulsion to get into the air.

2. Practice throwing in the air medicine balls so that you learn to swing your arms, a neglected part of your form to get you in the air. The swing of your arms is vital to counterbalance the movement of your legs.

3. Watch and learn from the pros! There is no better way to learn to imitate the best way to shoot than to actually watch the way the pros shoot. You never know what you might learn and discover by watching them. For example, shooting expert Paul Hoover watched several games and examined the best of the best shooters. He found out that every player always had the right forefinger touch the basketball last before executing. Was this done consciously? It’s not easy to say, but of course doing some of your own observations wouldn’t hurt to see why are professional players so effective.

While many factors play an important role to improving your vertical leap, form improvement should never be forgotten. I hope that these three tips will boost your ability to jump higher.
